A Christmas commission

A few months ago we were approached by one of our Facebook fans to create some custom action figures. Custom requests aren’t out of the ordinary — we get requests for custom toys all the time at Resin Heroes. The difference here was the subject matter. Our client wanted us to turn her family into 1/6 scale action figures for surprise Christmas presents!

Not only is Sean‘s daughter Halei a talented performance artist, she also excels at sculpting too. Here’s a sculpture she made for her high school ceramics class of Peter Pan, whom she is a huge fan of.

Doc Monster

Doc Monster custom 12″ figure

Recently, Tim put together a custom 12″ figure based on the Dave Flora’s comic character Doc Monster. The head is based off a Parker head by Sean that was then customized and painted by Tim.

Original sculpted heads

Here’s something you don’t see everyday — it’s a collection of Sean’s original sculpted heads for various projects over the years. These are what we use to create silicon molds which are then used make our resin casts.

Here’s a painted illustration Tim completed for the 2017 Doc Con that’s held annually in Arizona.

Wonder Woman head sculpt

Sean has completed his Wonder Woman head sculpt, he and Tim made a mold and cast it and now Tim has painted it. We all feel the sculpt looks a bit like the Linda Carter 1970s version of the character with a bit of the 1940s Wonder Woman mixed in too.

The end of the road for one of our molds

Here at Resin Heroes, we find that one of our silicon molds is good for about 20 castings before they start to fail and fall apart. You can see this happen in the photo below from a recent casting or Robin, the Boy Wonder. Here, bits of the mold have been left behind in Robin’s left eye and in his hair. Once we remove the excess molding this particular cast of Robin is fine, but it means that the master mold for Robin is effectively, for lack of a better term, dead.

Worry not since we can make a brand new mold for Robin from Sean’s original Robin sculpture.
